<p>Normally, a psychiatrist can prescribe SSRIs, which block serotonin in the brain, or anti-depressants, but those aren&#8217;t &#8220;cures.&#8221;</p>
<p>There are things you can do yourself to solve the problem from within&#8230;without a pill. </p>
<p>- Cognitive Behavior Therapy: It&#8217;s a fancy scientific term for getting to the root of your problem. It&#8217;s based on the belief that our response to things, not the things themselves, cause the problems. Basically, think about why you feel anxiety and work at it from there. </p>
<p>- Relaxation techniques: Meditation is a big one. You create a calm inside yourself and can revert to it when things get too stressful. This has really helped me. After long enough, you can do it in nearly an instant. In essence, it&#8217;s all about stepping back, taking a few breaths, breaking a problem down into manageable pieces and taking on each small bit so it doesn&#8217;t feel too overwhelming. </p>

<p>i know there are alot of medicines out there for anxiety/panic attacks,and a few remedies i already know,but am looking for outside ideas from others here on the net,any answers welcome,but also would like to hear from fellow internet users that deal with anxiety/panic attacks. Also wanting to hear about other methods other than prescribed meds to cure or relieve chronic back pain,ive had it for 6 years now,most recently reinjured in a car accident which we flipped car 3 times,in june 6th 2005.thanks

<p>There are a few different ways to control panic attacks.  I&#8217;ll give you a couple of short answers here, if you want more email me and I&#8217;ll tell you more.  </p>
<p>The first is called box breathing.  It realeases calming chemicals in your brain.  You blow all of your air out and take a slow deep breath for 8 seconds.  You actually want to be sucking in the air for a full 8 seconds.  Then you hold it in for 8 seconds.  then you blow it out slowly, for 8 seconds.  Let it all out.  Repeat ten times or until you are calm.</p>
<p>Another way (my favorite) is to focus on things.  For instance your arm.  You would take your right hand and place it on your left arm and just feel your arm.  While you are still feeling your arm notice what your chair feels like under you, touch the chair, just to feel the solid.  Just keep feeling things around you.  What this does is takes you out of your head.  Panic attacks occur in your mind, so if you get out of your mind and focus on your physical surroundings the panic will pass.  You can focus on whatever you want as long as it is a physical thing.  The point is to get out of your head.  This can also be combined with deep breathing.</p>
<p>One last thought.  If you feel one starting to come on you could put on a movie that is funny or comedy central or something like that.  When you start watching your focus changes and laughing releases chemicals that will make stress go away.</p>

<p>I&#8217;ve seen a few people who will at random type words in capital letters. It doesn&#8217;t seem to be an emphasis kind of thing, it&#8217;s just mid sentence, where and whenever.</p>
<p>The first person I noticed this in was a mother whose daughter had died, and the second was a real conspiracy/Alex Jones type. When I talked to the mom, she said she did it by choice (though she had dyslexia) as a &#8220;disregard&#8221; for the rules of English, but I figured it was deeper than that.</p>
<p>Is there some sort of disorder that causes this?

<p>It may not be an anxiety disorder but it indicates impatience.</p>

<p>Go to: http://ecouch.anu.edu.au/welcome  Select &#8220;social anxiety&#8221; for free Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy. An exercise which may help you is called &#8220;Act as If.&#8221; When you are in a social situation, act as if you are outgoing. Talk more; smile at people, ask questions, speak in a normal or excited tone, not a meek tone. Watch some of your more outgoing peers, and imitate the style of their social behavior. (PRETEND that you are an ACTOR, PLAYING a PART). Research shows that when you &#8220;act as if&#8221; continually, your image of yourself begins to conform to your new behavior. In this case, you will gain self-esteem and self-confidence, and begin to see yourself as socially normal, not shy. You will become more socially successful, and this will motivate you to continue your new social behavior until it becomes a habit. A form of therapy is to go somewhere that nobody knows you, and deliberately make an utter fool of yourself: put on a paper hat, and yell out: &#8220;I&#8217;m queen/king of America!&#8221;, or something else ridiculous, (make up your own &#8211; have some fun, safely) then get back in the taxi, (warn the driver of your intentions, first) or car, and leave. People will point, and say: &#8220;Look at that idiot&#8221;. Or, possibly in the company of a friend, or family member, on a different train, or bus route to your regular one, call out the names, or numbers of all the stops. It will teach you that, although it isn&#8217;t actually pleasant, (EXPECT MODERATE DISCOMFORT/EMBARRASSMENT) you will survive; be stronger for the experience, and the next time (should you need to repeat this type of therapy) will be considerably easier. Remember: &#8220;A fear avoided is a fear strengthened; a fear faced is a fear reduced.&#8221; Regard it as your final test: once you have accomplished it, the barrier will be broken; just don&#8217;t go too far, the other way! Learn to laugh at yourself, and give a big, cheesy grin when others see you do something foolish, as we all do, occasionally. It is endearing, if you don&#8217;t do it too often. Use positive affirmations: for example: &#8220;I am very likable and other people feel comfortable around me&#8221;. </p>
<p>Write down all of your self limiting beliefs; then write down, or print, in large type/capitalisation, the positive counter of them, (exact opposite) and repeat them and imprint them into your mind. Put it in a prominent position, where you will see it regularly. Most importantly: Force yourself to approach somebody and initiate some sort of communication. Start out small by asking the time, or directions and gradually go bigger. Although there are anti-anxiety medications (anxiolytics) available, these come with risks, and the possibility of side effects, habituation, even addiction, and withdrawal problems, and are unsuitable for young people. Try having a cup of &#8220;Tension Tamer&#8221;, (from supermarket tea, or health food aisles) or make some at home, and cool, then bottle, and drink as needed. C(h)amomile tea tastes better. As with all herbal/green teas, use lemon/lime, and/or a little sweetener (NOT ARTIFICIAL!!!) but no cream, or milk. Xylitol, or Stevia is preferable, from health food stores. Valerian has also been recommended, but some people experience &#8220;valerian hangovers&#8221;. Ensure you know how you react to it, before doing something potentially dangerous, like going out on the roads. The idea is to use the above products like water wings, to provide initial, short term support, while you become proficient in those techniques. Professional is best. &#8211; There is a version for use in public places, (if you want to, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind: &#8220;Even though I suffer from social anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.&#8221;</p>

<p> You are apparently thinking the authoritarian parenting as a negative thing &#8211; when in fact it may be a good exercise discipline to equip a person to defend himself in a world bent on destroying the moral and upright young &#8211; If it is brutal and physical, obviously a person can be seriously labeled emotionally &#8211; however, if it is simply setting limits (curfew, can not go to the mall and &quot;hang out&quot; must reach parents in the church, etc.), and parents are also involved in the march to the events of their child is involved in, attend parent-teacher conferences, and are also treating the child enough &#8211; then it&#39;s a very good thing indeed, and the child will develop into a responsible, contributing adults &#8211; one hopes &#8211; and one day be thankful that they had parents who cared about them. </p>
